Reflections on 35th Class Reunion:
Ok, so I didnt really know if I wanted to go
.but I am SO glad I did!!
I
had felt drawn to attend this reunion in a strong way. Some of it was
due to the care and diligence that Jim Ramirez and his hardy crew gave
to contacting all of us and urging us to come. However, another part of
me just wasnt really sure
..and I suspect that others felt the same way
and that some might not have come because that part of them won out.
I
didnt know what to expect
..would old adolescent feelings of insecurity
rise up and make the whole thing uncomfortable?? I suspected not, so I
made myself go.
The wonderful thing about the whole weekend was this
..I saw a lot of
people with whom I not only share memories, but common experiences in
our lives today. I found it interesting that many of our conversations
centered around whether we had kids, grandkids, were our parents living,
if they were, how were we handling their declining health, etc
..I
basically felt like I spent most of the time smiling, laughing,
listening, talking and enjoying memories that seem pretty sweet as I
looked back on them.
I
spent NO time looking to see who was fat, bald, had acne, dressed the
best, etc. I thought every face there was a welcome one and I was so
happy that the bunch of us had managed to get through the years and
still be healthy enough to come together and enjoy the memorabilia that
the reunion committee put together for us.
There were so many people who were missing that I hope will come next
time, and I am looking forward to that next reunion!!
Thanks again to Jim, Velta, Peggy, Chuck, Tracy and all the others who
helped on the committee and a SPECIAL thanks to Scott Cranford, who is a
hero in my book. I think our website is the bomb and he is amazing!!!

Next Reunion Date: 40th
Reunion on Arkalalah Weekend
Suggested Activities for 40th Reunion:
-
Long Distance
Representatives: Recruit Classmates to be part of our reunion
committee with allowing them to develop relationships with
classmates living out-of-town that stay in constant contact with
other out-of-town classmates to draw interest in attending our next
reunion. May need to look at multiple phone lines so they can
participate in our reunion meetings so they can be up-to-speed with
just-in-time reunion information.
-
Collection of 71
Memorabilia: Need Classmates to continue looking in garage sales for
anything that represents our 71 era.
-
Photos of Grade
School Class: Classmates need to forward any group photos of
periods while attending grade school so the committee can continue
forward with a class video of times growing up that led to our
graduation.
-
Name Tags to
include larger print of classmate name with photo.
-
Bowling on Friday
Night as another fun-filled activity for classmates.
-
Bleacher and Tent
set-up on Saturday in conjunction with the parade that invites and
feeds all classmates and family with hotdogs before and during the
parade so classmates wont have to pick & chose between family and
joining our reunion.
-
Book Regency
Court Inn Motel to see about hosting our 40th Reunion at
their site to accommodate lodging as well as Friday and Saturday
Nights Social Activities. (The committee believes this will address
3 major concerns that were brought to our attention that has the
potential to attract more classmates to attend next time).
-
Invite classmates
to a more inviting and less intimidating facility while eliminating
the false misconception of some classmates who may believe our
reunion is solely for classmates with financial resources since the
majority of our reunions have been held at the country club.
-
Accommodates both
smokers and non-smokers since designated areas are easily identified
within the motel.
-
Safeguards any
classmate that may partake in to much alcoholic beverages to remain
in the safety confines of the motel without having to drive.
