Update: When Jeff and I attended the 10-year high school reunion, we were the newest married couple. This November we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary. From all of the planning and enthusiasm for this year’s 35th reunion I really wish we could make it, but we live 9000 miles away, so it won’t be happening this time. I’d love to come to the 40th! It has been fun to check out the photos and bios on the website. Since I won’t be able to talk to people at the reunion, I thought I would go ahead and submit my information. We spent 10 years living and teaching in Denver. In 1992, we moved overseas to teach for an oil company. This is our 15th year teaching the children of expats who work for Saudi Aramco Oil Company. There are 650 students K-5 in my school alone, 7 teachers just on my fourth grade team. We live on a huge private compound of nearly 10,000 people, all of whom work for the oil company. Our jobs are excellent and we are very comfortable here despite the recent world events. We hope this continues to be a safe and great place to teach, but one never knows in this part of the world. The world has changed. One of the reasons we love our jobs is the quality of the school system the Americans put in place for this company many, many years ago. The other reason we have had such a good time is due to the travel we have been able to experience during the last 14 years. We have visited nearly 50 countries. We have walked the Great Wall of China, crawled inside the pyramids of Giza, floated in the Dead Sea, trekked the Himalayas of Nepal, seen a burial celebration in Bali, bungee jumped in New Zealand, relaxed on the island beaches of Greece, ridden on gondolas in Venice, gone on safari and hot air ballooned across the Serengeti Plains of Kenya and are headed to Cambodia and Vietnam this December. We have traveled to nearly every Middle Eastern country and traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe. We have flown around the world 7 times. It has been a good life! Our plans at this point are to return to the states in about 2 years and both retire from teaching. This is my 32nd year, so that will hopefully be enough! We just finished a new home in Castle Rock, CO this spring but it is just waiting for us. It was a pleasure to live in it for 3 weeks this summer on our yearly vacation. After 15 or more years living in a desert, we will be anxious to return to where our hearts call home - in the mountains and the fresh air of Colorado. |
